Dr Shehu, MCB Health & Medical Committee chair has stated that "'ALL doctors -whether Muslims or not must abide by GMC code of practice which recognises any breach of patient's confidentiality as a very serious matter subject to disciplinary measures". Referring to a recent statement by the Health Secretary of State Rt.Hon Patricia Hewitt MP, he adds, "I don't believe Muslim practitioners in particular can be accused of this as a group and if anyone has been found guilty of such, he or she should be reported to the appropriate authority. To make a generalised statement like this without providing any actual evidence is both derogatory and totally unacceptable".
