The MCB joins celebrations for the 10th Anniversary of the NHS Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Screening Programme Tuesday 20 December 2011
The NHS Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Screening Programme held a reception to celebrate its 10th anniversary on 21st June 2011. The event was sponsored by Diane Abbott, Shadow Minister for Public Health. It was well attended and received support from celebrities such as JB from popular boy band “JLS” and comedian Lenny Henry.
Over 75 guests enjoyed inspiring and congratulatory speeches from Chair Trevor Philips OBE - Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Chair of the Sickle Cell Society - Anne Welsh and President of the UK Thalassaemia Society - Gabriel Theophanous. The Screening Programme’s Director Dr Allison Streetly was also congratulated on her success in taking leadership so effectively of the programme and also her OBE award for Services to Healthcare.
