YOUTH AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Aims
`Value five things before five:
YOUTH before old age,
HEALTH before sickness,
WEALTH before poverty,
LEISURE before preoccupation,
and LIFE before death.'
-Saying of Prophet Muhammad [s], recorded by Tirmidhi
The Muslim Council of Britain's Youth Affairs Committee is formed of quite possibly the coolest young folks to grace the streets of Britain. We believe in activism without sacrificing on ample sleep. We believe in equality in representation, so long as we're given the most attention(!). We believe in political engagement and telling the BNP exactly what we think of them. We believe in holding lots of meetings with lots of caffeine consumption. We believe in ransacking the MCB office refreshments cupboard and taking over the office PCs.
But most of all, we believe in ourselves and you: the young Muslims of Britain. We believe, together, we all have the potential and capabilities of bettering Britain for all. And we believe by working together that potential can be truly realised, for the benefit of ourselves and our country.
Composed of a dynamic, diverse and ever-growing group of energetic young Muslims from around the UK, the committee was created to reflect the values of the MCB with a particular focus upon the needs of the youth. From promoting unity between communities and organisational affiliates to encouraging and strengthening initiatives beneficial to the Muslim and wider community, we work to this end, channelling our work specifically for the benefit of the young Muslims across the UK.
Our aims are to:
1. Advocate (Muslim youth issues) and Represent (MCB youth affiliates)
2. Connect, Unite and Empower Muslim youth organisations
3. Showcase Muslim youth achievements
We hope to achieve the above through the development of a committee that is regionally representative, delivering projects and initiatives tailored to realising these aims and through the empowerment of our affiliates and organisations – to build their capacity and means to facilitate for the youth – in this ever more challenging climate. We wish to create a platform whereby we are all able to share our knowledge, experience and good practices. Thereby we may enable the creation and expansion of initiatives that benefit young Muslims to be better citizens adhering to both the values of the UK as well as that of our faith.
