Welcome to the Community Newswire
Mon 02 Aug 2004
Community Newswire is our new and totally free service that is up and running and giving a voice to non-profit organisations. On www.communitynewswire.org you can see the stories that have gone to journalists through the English regional newswire service of The Press Association (PA). While you're there, send your stories and photos directly to the Community Newswire newsroom through a simple online template. The first time you send a story you will be asked to register. There will be no charge for this or for submitting stories, and registration takes just a couple of minutes. This is to evaluate the Community Newswire and speed your release through the system.

How the Community Newswire can help you
It can expand your coverage with PA's distribution network, give the latest news from the not for profit sector and provide free advice on media relations. We want as many press releases as possible and our dedicated and editorially independent team aim to put out 20 stories a day from the widest range of regions and sectors. These go straight to the computers of journalists at no extra cost in a format they know and can use instantly.
PA is the national news agency of Britain and Ireland. Its wire service is an essential source of information and subscribers include every national and regional daily paper, many weekly papers and all major news broadcasters. Community Newswire stories are backed by PA's reputation for accuracy, impartiality and speed. There will be no spin or political agenda added to your story.

How to make best use of the Community Newswire
This new service is to support your current PR efforts and not replace them so you should carry on sending your news to your media contacts. Even if you already have a good relationship with your local media the Community Newswire can still boost your coverage.
Every story will be available to anyone for free on the Community Newswire website and PA's open access site www.pa.mediapoint.press.net. We won't be able to tell you if your story is on the site so use the website's search facility every day.

Online support
Before you send your release look at the Community Newswire section on www.mediatrust.org for all you need to make the most of this exciting new service. It has guides to what is a story, writing a press release, planning a media campaign and taking photos.
There is also a feedback form so you can tell us how to make the service even better and let us know about the coverage that you gained through the Community Newswire. Every quarter the organisation whose story had the biggest impact will win a prize.
The Media Trust's Community Channel (www.communitychannel.org) will feature stories from the Community Newswire on its regular bulletin Action Update!
