Dear Sir,

Your Jewish columnist Paul Callan understandably condemns the appalling desecration of Jewish graves in West Ham earlier this week. We at the Muslim Council of Britain fervently hope that the police apprehend those responsible quickly.

Last week, twenty-five headstones were overturned in the Muslim section of a cemetery in Newport, South Wales. There have been similar desecrations of Muslim cemeteries in other parts of the country in recent years.

All British citizens, regardless of our faith or lack of it, should together fight the evils of racial and religious discrimination.
