Can you inspire young Muslims to succeed in Britain today?

The statistical evidence on underachievement of Muslim students in all parts of the country is startling. There are a number of reasons for the underachievement but it is clear that our youngsters need help and guidance. We have a religious and civic responsibility to do all we can to ensure that our youth is inspired to do better and to enable them to succeed in careers of their choice. Our youth are our future.

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) recognizing its responsibility as the umbrella national Muslim organisation has through its Social and Family Affairs Committee launched a project called the `Footsteps'. The `Footsteps' will identify role models for young persons to see and hear from with the aim that the experience will inspire and uplift the morale of young persons. The `Footsteps' is a nationwide endeavor to wake and shake young persons and to direct their energies in a positive and constructive manner for their own betterment and for achieving the common good of the society. It will enable young persons to learn from the experiences of high achievers.

The role models will be invited to speak at secondary schools throughout the nation, targeting six regions, covering three schools in each region. As one third of Muslims are under the age of sixteen, the target group will be thirteen and fourteen year olds.
