With Ramadan arriving we know there are lots of fantastic events
planned in communities across the country. We have heard from several Muslim organisations
that this Ramadan they will be holding a ‘Big Iftar’: breaking fast with neighbours
from all walks of life, in order to engage with their local community.
‘Big Iftar’ this Ramadan is a perfect way to demonstrate that –
to show people of other faiths and none, who perhaps have never even been in a
mosque or enjoyed a meal with Muslims, what it’s really like.
We are encouraging all Mosques, community centres and
communities to welcome in non-Muslim guests from their local communities to
come and share Iftar. As an umbrella concept, the Big Iftar is about
being creative – multi-faith iftars can happen inside Mosques, community
centres, public places (subject to prior approval) and even hosted by Muslim
We hope you can take part in this groundbreaking, exciting and
Iftar campaign is a way to bring together all the different
events across the country and encourage other mosques and community centres to
open up their doors to their local communities.
So we’re really keen to know about your plans for Ramadan this
year. As a note we are encouraging Mosques to hold an activity on or around the
27th July which marks the mid-Ramadhan period.
