Islam is everywhere. There are more newspaper column inches and water cooler discussions about the Muslim religion than ever before. But following recent newspaper headlines about alleged terrorist plots, just what does it mean to be British and Muslim? Shariah TV allows British Muslims to explore what it means to live in the western world and follow Shariah Law, and addresses the many misconceptions and prejudices about how these laws fit with 21st Century British life. The opening programme addresses the perception of Islam, looking at contentious subjects including the hijab, terrorism and forced marriage. The series features British Muslims seeking answers from a team of leading Islamic scholars and experts for the first time on British terrestrial television. Presented by journalist So Rahman, the series will also look at subjects including the family, citizenship, consumerism and the relationship between Islam and other faiths. The series begins on Channel 4 on Tuesday April 27th night at 12:10am. |
