May the peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon us all as we celebrate the end of the Islamic period of Hajj. Through the remembrance of the willingness of the Prophet Abraham, may Gods peace and blessings be with him, to sacrifice his son, the Hajj represents the ultimate expression of submission by believers to the will of God, The power of this collective experience is one that each individual soul will never forget. This year we have been faced with the expression of God's will through the forces of nature and the devastation caused by the Tsunami disaster in South East Asia. Whilst we reflect and pray for God's protection and mercy in the midst of such pain and suffering, we have also seen the strength of the human spirit and the common bonds of humanity that exist between us all. The response in Britain and elsewhere has shown us that we can all play a role in the global community to alleviate suffering, and to promote harmony and peace. Through shared values and common effort, both at home and abroad, we can ensure that the most vulnerable in our society are protected. As Muslims it is our duty to be at the forefront of this struggle. |
