Books for Schools, an exciting innovative project aiming to provide mainstream schools with authentic resources to aid the teaching of Islam within Religious Education was successfully piloted in Manchester earlier this year. The community support received was overwhelming. Equally gratifying was the very positive response from educationalists in and around the Greater Manchester area following presentations by the Books for Schools team to head teachers and SACRE body members. A successful partnership has resulted from these interactions which will lead to these education authorities facilitating the provision of a 'Books for Schools Resource Pack' to each school in their area. Development of the first set of resources is now complete and we are delighted to announce that the Secretary of State for Education, Rt. Hon. Charles Clarke MP will be the Chief Guest at the Launch of the widely-acclaimed Books for Schools project. The event is to be held at 4pm on 12th October 2004 at The Institute of Education in London. The event is free of charge, but due to limited capacity places will be prioritised to those with an interest in education and community development and thereafter on a first come first serve basis. Those interested in attending the event should email mcbdirect@mcb.org.uk Sample packs will be available for inspection and purchase on the day, priced £125/pack.
