Those who say, when afflicted with calamity: “To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return” (2:156) | Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un
It is with great sorrow that the Muslim Council of Britain has received the news of the demise of our friend and colleague, Munawer Rattansey. We have lost a wise, dedicated and unassuming community leader.
There are many testimonies to his years of service at local and national levels. He was Vice President, Secretary General and a committee member of the Hyderi Islamic Centre, Streatham, whose activities serve as a beacon for other MCB affiliates. At the national level, he was President of the Council of European Jamaats (CoEJ) from 2005 to 2009 and later held office as Vice-President of the World Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna Asheri Muslim Communities. He was also a member of the Steering Committee of the Mosques and Imams Advisory Board (MINAB) when it was formed in 2005.
Throughout these years he participated in the work of the MCB, as CoEJ delegate at annual general meetings. In 2016 he was elected to the MCB’s National Council and served as the zonal representative for South London and Southern England.
There is no doubt that our Munawer Rattansey will be sorely missed by us all, not just as our colleague and as our friend, but as our brother.
May Allah grant him a high position in the next world and see his legacy live on. We pray to Allah to forgive him, accept his deeds and bless him with Jannat al-Firdaus. May Allah grant his family patience and relief. Ameen.
