Eid Message 2018 from the Secretary General of MCB

On behalf of the Muslim Council of Britain, I would like to wish you all a joyous Eid.

After spending a month fasting and much reflection, we have been blessed with such an opportunity to renew our sense of purpose, and re-evaluate our values of gratitude and charity.

My colleagues and I have attended many iftar events across the UK, organised by our affiliates, and non-affiliates, and it has been truly remarkable to witness these community gatherings, bringing in people of different faiths and none, and sharing the breaking of the fast together. This is what community spirit is all about.

It has also been admirable to see Prime Minister Theresa May and Leader of the Opposition, Jeremy Corbyn, attend and share iftar with Muslim communities in the UK.

As we end our fast this evening, we also mark the anniversary of the Grenfell fire tragedy where 72 innocent lives were tragically taken away. Our prayers and pursuit for justice for the victims will always continue, and they will forever remain in our hearts.

I would like to commend all our affiliates for their tireless community efforts, whether that was through organising street iftars, community events, and even fundraising – where each year millions are raised to help those most in need.

May you all enjoy and celebrate the day with loved ones, and may it be filled with peace and blessings.

Eid Mubarak.

Harun Khan
Secretary General
