Commenting on the selection of Mohamed Sbihi as the Team GB flag bearer for Tokyo 2020, Zara Mohammed, MCB Secretary General said:
“Countless British Muslims make outstanding contributions to public life in a range of sectors, from science and arts, to business and sports.
“The selection of world class rower Mohamed Sbihi to jointly carry the flag for Team GB, alongside sailor Hannah Mills, at the Tokyo Olympic Opening Ceremony today is a positive symbol of the increasing diversity in British sport.
“His selection will undoubtedly inspire more Muslim children and adults to get involved in sports like rowing and follow their ambitions for sporting excellence.
“Mohamed has already brought home Bronze and Gold Olympic medals for the Men’s Rowing Team in 2012 and 2016. We wish him and the whole of Team GB the very best in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic games.”
