Stronger action by the UK on the Uighur Muslim genocide is urgently required
Beijing Olympics 2022: We must exercise our conscience
Today the Muslim Council of Britain has added its voice to calls for the UK Government to boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics in February 2022 as part of stronger action against China’s ongoing genocide of Uighur Muslims.
Writing in The Times Red Box today, Hassan Joudi, Deputy Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, said, “Now is the moment for the UK to show courageous leadership on the global stage by leading calls for a boycott, to be reversed only if China can show a commitment to independent investigations to clear its name of genocide.”
“We simply cannot attend the 2022 Beijing Olympics in good conscience whilst the Uighur Muslim genocide continues.”
“Otherwise we will forever be remembered as a generation who had the choice to act, but instead we chose to pay lip service to ‘never again.’”
