Women in Mosques – December Training Session

On Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th December, the MCB held the final training session of the Women in Mosques Development Programme 2018, a pilot programme designed to up-skill 20 upcoming female leaders to become the mosque trustees, committee members and leaders of the future.

The two-day residential was held at Markfield Institute of Higher Education, Leicestershire and involved sessions on the role of a trustee, communication skills and HR & Finance management essentials by subject-matter experts, the scholarly view on the role of women in the mosque with Sheikh Ibrahim Mogra, as well as how to successfully start and grow projects and understanding board room dynamics by lead facilitator Andleen Razzaq.

As part of MCB’s post-programme commitment, mentees will have the opportunity to receive additional mentoring support, as well as the option to apply for an extended 12-month placement with a mosque decision-making committee during 2019.

Based on lessons learned from this pilot phase, a 2019 Women in Mosques Development Programme is planned to be launched at the MCB’s annual conference marking International Women’s Day on 9 March 2019.
