Labour clarifies position on Kashmir to MCB

Following a letter from the MCB’s Legal Affairs Committee on 4 May seeking clarification on the Labour Party’s position on Kashmir, the Leader of the Opposition has responded to the MCB.

Following a letter from the MCB’s Legal Affairs Committee on 4 May seeking clarification on the Labour Party’s position on Kashmir, the Leader of the Opposition has responded to the MCB.

In his letter, Keir Starmer confirms the position of the Labour Party has not changed and the party continues to support the previous UN resolutions on the rights of the Kashmiri people. He also confirmed his commitment to promoting peace and human rights first in his approach to international relations.

Commenting, Harun Khan, Secretary General of the MCB, said:

“I welcome the clarification from Keir Starmer that the Labour Party is committed to supporting previous UN resolutions on the rights of the Kashmiri people. This issue is one of great importance for many Muslims in Britain, and it is imperative that a lasting, peaceful solution is sought to end the ongoing conflict in Kashmir.

“I look forward to working with Keir Starmer and Shadow Foreign Secretary, Lisa Nandy, to ensure the voices of Britain’s Kashmiri communities are heard.”
