“The believers shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his Sadaqah” (Hadith Tirmidhi)

Without your continued support, we cannot continue to tackle Islamophobia, develop better mosques and showcase the work of the Muslim communities across the UK.

What we do

The MCB is committed to tackling social injustice in all its forms, national advocacy being a cross cutting theme in all its works. The MCB works with its affiliates, civil society partners, and decision-makers to create a positive difference for British Muslim communities. MCB seeks to work for the common good, to build just and cohesive society for all. We work hard to represent, advocate for and capacity build Muslim communities for a stronger, fairer, more sustainable future. Our work is not just for today, but for the benefit of British Muslims and UK communities into tomorrow.

What is Sadaqah?

Sadaqah is a voluntary charitable act towards another being, which is highly emphasised in Islam as it carries great reward and brings numerous benefits. It is the concept of giving charity voluntarily ‘fi sabillilah’ (for the cause of Allah). These acts are not necessarily physical or monetary. Sadaqah is not judged by how big or small it is, but on how it helps people and how regularly it is done. It is not an obligation like Zakat, but instead a practice performed to cleanse your soul, ward off calamites and put your heart and mind at ease. Good deeds as simple as a smile, or a helping hand can be Sadaqah.

A number of sayings of the Prophet (SAW) emphasise the benefits of giving Sadaqah.

“Sadaqah extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire.” [Tirmidhi]

“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” [Tirmidhi]

Sadaqah can be used for any project or programme which is of benefit to people.

If needed, add any instructions for contact information here at the bottom. Try to keep it short and simple. Senectus eu a condimentum mi lacus etiam sodales iaculis urna est a primis quam nisl a habitasse.

What is Sadaqah Jariyah?

Another important concept within Islam is the idea of Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity – benefit not just in the short term but the long term).

The Prophet (SAW) said:
“When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: a continuing charity, beneficial knowledge and a child who prays for them.” [Muslim]

Therefore, many Muslims are eager to give charity which will continue to have benefit to people after their death, and continue to earn them reward. Any charity which continues to have positive effects on a community in the long-term, beyond immediate relief, can be considered a Sadaqah Jariyah.

Allah tells us in the Qur’an that the reward of spending in charity is like:
“A grain of corn which grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains” [Qur’an, 2:261]

Therefore, we encourage you to give Sadaqah regularly to the MCB in your name or the name of a loved ones and reap it’s rewards!

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
