Report Hate Crime & Community Safety Advice
Islamophobia can affect people in many different ways. If you or someone you know has experienced it, please report it and seek support as soon as possible.
In our society, Islamophobic hate crime is prevalent and much of this goes unreported. Click here to find out what we’re doing to tackle Islamophobia.
How to report:
- If you are in immediate danger, call 999.
- For non-emergency incidents, call 101.
- If you are on public transport, text British Transport Police on 61016.
- Report to the Islamophobia Response Unit at theiru.org.uk/report-islamophobia.
- Report to the British Muslim Trust at britishmuslimtrust.co.uk or call their helpline on 0808 172 3524.
- Report to Muslim Safety Net at muslimsafetynet.org.uk or contact them by SMS or WhatsApp on 07311 876 378.
Community Safety Advice
During periods of community tension, far-right activity, or following incidents such as mosque attacks or terror-related events, the safety of British Muslims is our priority. In the interest of your safety and wellbeing, we advise the following:
- Stay safe in public – Avoid areas where a rally or incident is taking or has taken place until authorities confirm it is safe to do so.
- Stay alert – Be extra vigilant for individuals displaying open hostility, or racially and religiously aggravated abuse or violence on the street.
- Report everything – Report all incidents as quickly as possible. Note down as much detail as you can, including time, location, descriptions, and any witnesses.
- Travel in groups – Where possible, travel with others. Muslim women face a higher risk of targeted abuse in public spaces such as high streets and public transport, so we particularly encourage sisters not to travel alone during periods of heightened tension.
- Protect your mosque and community spaces – Refer to MCB Community Safety Guidance to ensure your mosque and community organisation are protected from vandalism and attacks.
