Commenting on the sentencing on Friday of John Ashby, 32, who raped a Sikh women in her 20s in her home in Walsall on 26 October 2025 whilst shouting ‘f***ing Muslim bitch’, Dr Naomi Green, Assistant Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, said
“Our hearts go out to the victim, her family and the wider Sikh community in the West Midlands who have been deeply traumatised by this and similar events in recent months.
During the sentencing. the judge described Ashby as a ‘deeply unpleasant racist and Islamophobe.’ Women and girls are so often on the front line of violence, and the normalisation of race and religious-based hatred only deepens their vulnerability.”
