This Saturday 16th May, yet another far-right “Unite the Kingdom” rally is taking place in Central London which is of serious concern to British Muslim and minority communities who are at risk of being subjected to increased violence and hatred.
The last such rally in September 2025 featured speakers who openly incited hatred, chanted anti-Muslim slogans and unashamedly encouraged violence and civil disobedience on Britain’s streets (see Annex below). The Muslim Council of Britain has advocated strongly against the far right and condemns the hate speech which the organisers propagate.
At least 25 police officers were attacked and injured by far-right thugs, with several requiring hospital treatment for severe head injuries and broken bones. This must not be tolerated and all Metropolitan Police and front line workers who work to make our streets safe must be free from abusive behaviour of this nature.
In the interest of safety and security, we advise British Muslims to:
- Avoid parts of central London where the far-right rally is taking place (with exception of shift workers and Nakba Day demonstrators, see below)
- Be extra vigilant for individuals expressing open hostility, racially or religiously aggravated violence on our streets.
- Ensure any incidents are reported swiftly by calling 101 or reporting to IRU, BMT or MSN. On public transport, text BTP on 61016. In an emergency, always call 999.
- To travel in groups where possible, especially Muslim women who are at higher risk of abuse especially on public transport.
- Refer to MCB’s Community Safety Guidance for mosques and community organisations to ensure places of worship are safe from vandalism and attacks: https://mcb.org.uk/mcb-mosque-safety-and-security-guidance/
Avoiding parts of central London this Saturday may not be possible for everyone e.g. those who work on shifts such as nurses, hospitality staff, rail and bus workers or taxi drivers, or those attending the Nakba Day demonstration. Please take extra care, be cautious and vigilant and support our public sector workers where possible.
Dr Wajid Akhter, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain says: “Nobody should be forced to walk Britain’s streets in fear of their safety. But when irresponsible political rhetoric, toxic social media algorithms and double standards in policing continue to act as enabling factors for open racism and violence is promoted on Britain’s streets, the downward spiral will accelerate. We urge all British Muslims and minority communities to take extra precautions and prioritise their safety first.”
