The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) strongly condemns the bombing that took place near Drottninggatan, a busy shopping street of the Swedish Capital on Saturday.

MCB Secretary General Farooq Murad said `The facts are yet to be conveyed, but we should all be thankful that no innocent lives were lost. We all have a collective duty to make a stand against those who wish to execute any of these heinous acts against innocent civilians across the world.’

The MCB has been consistent in calling its stand against acts of terrorism and its call for action against the perpetrators. In 2004, The MCB released a statement soon after the bombings in Madrid which resulted in the deaths of 200 people on 11th March. The MCB called it ‘inhumane and barbaric’ and hoped for the `perpetrators of these monumental crimes against humanity’ to be `identified and held to account’.

It is unjustifiable to associate these crimes with Muslim students at Universities, the vast majority of whom are law-abiding and play a full and active role in student life and partake in working for the good of society.
