EidMubarak2016

Eid message from the Secretary General of the MCB, Dr Shuja Shafi:

On behalf of our affiliates, volunteers and staff at the Muslim Council of Britain, I would like to wish you all a joyous and blessed day of Eid.

Eid is a joyous and unique thanksgiving festival which Muslims celebrate all over the world. Times like Eid are special as they bring together in celebration our richly diverse and vibrant range of Muslim communities living in Britain.

For the last 30 days, Muslims have been fasting for around 19 hours each day. These days revitalised us with the true spirit of gratitude, steadfastness and patience, which are all culminations of everyday lessons in life. I pray that all our good works and prayers are accepted during this blessed month. And I pray we can keep this renewed spirit throughout the year.

Whilst there has been an increase in hate crimes since the EU referendum, we also saw an outpouring of love and support from the British public. Whilst we continue with our celebrations, the MCB has published some general safety tips which can be found here.

I am sure this has been a challenging Ramadan for the millions of Syrian refugees displaced due to the Syrian conflict. Many charities have been raising money throughout Ramadan for the poor and destitute around the world. We will continue to keep them in our prayers, and assist in whatever way we can. The MCB will soon be publishing a list of charities and organisations that are providing aid and help to Syrian refugees. We also pray for the people who have left this world as victims of war, politics and hatred. Our thoughts remain with their families and loved ones.

As this holy month draws to an end, I would like to take the opportunity to kindly request you all to carry on supporting the MCB, and to remember us in your prayers.

May this Eid be a peaceful, joyous and a blessed occasion for our families, friends and communities.

Eid Mubarak.

Dr Shuja Shafi,
Secretary General
Muslim Council of Britain
