The Muslim Council of Britain is appalled and profoundly saddened by the reported cold-blooded murder of Mr Kenneth Bigley after a protracted period of mental torture and anguish.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the Bigley family who have gone through the most dreadful of experiences. Throughout this terrible ordeal we have maintained close contact with Ken’s family.

The MCB’s Secretary General, Iqbal Sacranie said:

`There can be absolutely no justification for the killing of this defenceless individual. This is a deed that is deeply repugnant and morally reprehensible. We unequivocally condemn it and hope that Ken’s murderers are brought to justice swiftly.’

Mr Sacranie added:

`Sadly, the humanitarian mission to Iraq undertaken by Dr Daud Abdullah, MCB Assistant Secretary-General, and Dr Musharraf Hussain was not able to secure the desired outcome in this case. However their efforts will serve to underscore the complete and utter rejection of these kinds of vile and barbaric actions by the vast majority of the worldwide Muslim community. ”
