An alarming incident took place at Hasanah Centre mosque, Stratford, at approximately 10:30 pm on Friday, 30 October 2026.
The mosque’s front-facing window was smashed, scattering broken glass throughout the main prayer hall. A metal rod reportedly entered through the broken window and struck the wall of the Mihrab, causing damage inside the mosque.
Dr Naomi Green, Assistant Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, said: “As we mark the first day of Islamophobia Awareness Month in November, Hasanah Centre, a mosque in Stratford has had its front-facing windows smashed, scattering broken glass throughout the main prayer hall.
Such violent attacks on places of worship must never be allowed to be normalised, and we thank Metropolitan Police and local MP Uma Kumaran for their swift response. However, yet again such events are being treated by Government as isolated incidents of property damage, rather than the wider pattern of attacks and intimidation towards the British Muslim community.
Meanwhile, the Special Representative on Anti-Muslim Hostility that Angela Rayner promised last week would be appointed, almost 8 months after being announced, is still nowhere to be seen.”
