Empowering Council of Mosques and Local Umbrella Organisations
Landmark report highlighting opportunities and best practice from 30+ Council of Mosques and local umbrella organisations across the UK.
Over the last four decades, many British Muslim communities have been steadily building local umbrella organisations to support engagement at local authority level. From the oldest institutions in Bradford, Lancashire, Leicester and Walsall, to newer ones established in the last five years, their growth has been largely organic and each are at different stages of development.
When the COVID19 pandemic started, many acted as pivotal focal points at city-, town-, county- or borough-level to convene local community decision-makers. But even before the pandemic, many were actively engaging with over 40 issues that cover the full spectrum of public life. This landmark report reviews the current landscape and makes recommendations for Muslim civil society, business owners, philanthropists and local authorities.
