Reflection Spaces: Guidelines for Staff in Secondary Schools

Many schools are increasingly recognising that contemplation of ‘mindfulness’ activities help with the mental and spiritual well-bring of all pupils.

This guide is written for secondary schools who wish to set up a ‘reflection space’, ‘quiet room’ or ‘multi-faith room’ for pupils and provides specific guidance in the context of supporting Muslim students.

It provides information for school leaders or senior staff developing such a space for the first time. Supervision procedures for use of this space and toilet facilities should be in line with the school’s safeguarding policy. It should not be onerous to implement. The guide includes a selection of photos and suggest principles for the reflection room.
