The Muslim Council of Britain welcomes this historic ruling by International Court of Justice (ICJ) that Israel’s settlement policies and exploitation of natural resources in Palestinian territories are in breach of international law.
This ruling came after the ICJ confirmed the validity of arguments presented by 52 states and international organisations. The Chief Justice’s critical address on displacement, exploitation, and settlement policies clearly highlights that these actions violate international laws, including the Fourth Geneva Convention and the UN Charter and amounts to “de-facto annexation”.
The MCB urges our Government and international community to act on the ICJs findings including the obligation on all states not to render aid and/or assistance in maintaining situation created by the State of Israel in the occupied territories of Palestine, which includes Gaza.
States must continue to pressure Israel to halt settlement expansion and end the illegal occupation.
The humanitarian crisis cannot be left to carry on devastating gazans, an active effort must be made by international peacekeepers. We call on our government once again to end the supply of arms to Israel.
It is imperative for Britain to lead in ensuring justice and international rule is respected.
