We understand that bad faith actors such as the Free Speech Union and others have suggested the Muslim Council of Britain is an ‘extremist’ organisation and that we are somehow supporting a Government ‘cover-up’. Whilst not wishing to disappoint those trying to manufacture a sub Hollywood-grade movie plot, we published the below in the interest of clarity.
A spokesperson for the Muslim Council of Britain said: “It is ironic that the “Free Speech” Union spends so much of its time trying to shut out the voices of British Muslims in public life. Free speech for me, but not for thee.
The Muslim Council of Britain’s engagement with this Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) consultation in 2025 is already on public record, not a secret. We were not invited to any meetings. We made a written submission. The resulting non-statutory definition – not law – was weak, diluted and differed widely from what we recommended.
Ironically, we have been calling for transparency from MHCLG on this consultation too. Who was consulted, and why so many leading Muslim community voices were blocked while people like Sir John Jenkins and Sir Trevor Phillips were welcomed.”
