On 8 July 2018, the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) elected its youngest ever Deputy Secretary General. Hassan Joudi, aged 28, joins the MCB leadership team following his work on MCB’s mosque-focused projects in recent years after graduating from university. Harun Khan is re-elected as Secretary General for a further two-year term for 2018-2020. (Full biographies below).
Harun Khan said, “It is an honour and a privilege to be chosen to serve a second term as the head of this great organisation with its diverse membership and amazing staff and volunteers. I look forward to working closely with my new leadership team in embedding the much needed initiatives we commenced recently and congratulate my newly elected colleagues on the National Council”.

All projects are designed to work towards MCB’s vision of ‘empowering the Muslim community towards achieving a just, cohesive and successful British society.’
National Council
Delegates at the conference also elected members for the National Council 2018-2020, who are responsible to the General Assembly for the efficient and proper running of the MCB, and to carry out policies laid out by the General Assembly. The election process was supervised by an independent election commissioner, solicitor Khalid Sofi.
About the New Leadership
Harun Rashid Khan
Harun Rashid Khan is a Londoner born and bred, and has been a Civil Engineer in the city for over two decades. Since he was a teenager, Harun devoted his time to community work in East London and has also served as a school governor for many years. While serving as the Chair of the MCB London Committee (2006-2010) he founded the Eid celebrations in London’s Trafalgar Square in partnership with the Mayor of London and attended by up to 20,000 visitors. Harun was the first second generation Muslim to be elected as Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain in 2016 and has now been re-elected for a further 2-year term for 2018-2020. Harun is married and lives with his wife and three daughters in London.
Hassan Joudi
Hassan started to volunteer with the MCB in 2014 soon after graduating from university, initially supporting the publishing of MCB’s “British Muslims in Numbers”report. He then got involved with #VisitMyMosque Day, leading the growth of the national event for four consecutive years from 20 participating mosques in 2015, to 200+ mosques in 2018. In January 2018, Hassan led the MCB organising team for the first “Our Mosques Our Future” conference and planning is currently underway for a second “Our Mosques Our Future” conference in Manchester on 6 October 2018. Hassan works as a Mechanical Engineer in the energy sector. He is married and is based in London. |
